The talented, “Scrappy Lil Brown Gal” rap artist, Ms. Urvah Khan, blends rap, rock & world music to create her own punkish style of fusion Hip Hop music (well, I call it that). We caught up with her & found out about the making of her EP, a robot & her musical influence!

MED: When did you realize that you were musically inclined?

URV: Ever since I remember, I’ve always been a music listener, and have always appreciated word play and how songs can convey emotions. Putting words to music seemed like a natural evolution, having a writer/journalistic background and living in Malvern. (near Toronto Canada) it’s been a couple of years since I decided to go hard professionally.

MED: What inspires & influences your lyrics/music?

URV: Life itself!  It depends on what my environment and emotions are at a given point.  At times I write to vent the emotions that I might be dealing with, but other times you might catch me in a good mood and out comes a track like “Freak Rok” lol.  For certain tracks I co-write with my band, as I believe it brings to the table a different style, a different feel.  Our main goal is come up with a product that ultimately is a true reflection of Urvah Khan; different, crazy and just out there!
MED: Who are your band members?

URV: It’s basically the four of us. Ruben Huizenga (Producer/ Guitar & Bass Player), Ken Griffin (Drums/Precussion), NOMAD MKII (Supercomputer/Robot) and myself Urvah Khan ( Rappa/ RhymeWrita)
MED: You released an EP titled, “Universal Rhythm Venture“. Tell us a little about the process of making the album.

URV: It was a fun journey! Obviously being a rapper, it was exciting and interesting working with a band with live instruments. I’ve finally found a match to my aggressive energy I would say. Believe me; the songs you hear on “Universal Rhythm Venture” are truly the first few songs we created as a team, so we were all just playing in an unknown field.  But again, it’s a journey.  I’ve found my sound, and now it’s about evolving and maturing as an artist. I’m extremely proud of how well the EP was received, tracks like “I Jus Wanna”, “War Drum” & “Pop Pop Pop” got a lot of attention and the EP being my introduction to the world, it truly did fulfill!
MED: Where can the readers/fans get a hold of the album?

URV: The readers can always check me out at www.URVmusic.com . The EP is available on iTunes for download. You guys can search up Urvah Khan or Universal Rhythm Venture on iTunes and will find the EP.
MED: For how long do you plan to make music?

URV: For as long as I humanly can lol.. I don’t see anything stopping me ..
MED: If you were an ad, what would you say?

URV: I would say “Scrappy Lil Brown Gal” explains it all .. hehe
MED: Dead or alive, which music artist would you choose to be your mentor or like to work with?

URV: Oh God, there’s actually a few, but to choose one…. I would say Black Sabbath. I’m a total Sabbath head. And to have the opportunity to work with them would definitely be a dream come true.
MED: What genre or who are you listening to these days?

URV: I’ve really been looking to the past lately to find inspiration… I find myself gravitating toward a lot of classic rock, (Sabbath, Queen, Boney M, Guns N Roses and the list goes on.) I love digging in the crates to find how music was originally made and how much it has evolved over the years.  The more I listen and research, the more I find myself liking music with live instruments and lots of energy..
MED: Do you work a day job? Hate it or love it?

URV: I’m an independent artist, so yeah, I do have to have some sort of a steady income to survive. Hate it or love it? Have to love it lol It pays the bills.
MED: What’s your favorite body art?

URV: I love Tattoos!! Totally one of my biggest addictions.
MED: Craziest experience (music industry or life)?

URV: This whole music journey has been a crazy experience. Lol but I still do believe the craziest time is yet to come, so we’ll leave that question for the future..
MED: Finally, anything you’d like to say to the readers & fans?

URV: Thank you for reading!
And..
Welcome to Rock meets World!
